Village History Project

We are a small group of Guilden Sutton residents who are intending over a period of time to investigate various aspects of our village, its history, life and times. To celebrate our Village Fete in July 2012, we prepared a series of display panels representing a timeline of the history of the village from prehistory through to the building of our new Primary School in 1989/1990, our new Community Hall and the A55 extension, “the missing link”.

The Village of Guilden Sutton has been very generously bequeathed a series of photograph albums by the family of the late Arthur Willis. These albums show many aspects of village life. So far seven of these albums have been catalogued and the photographs scanned in an effort to save them as a valuable archive of our changing village.

The catalogue is available on-line here for any local historians or family history researchers to view. Look at the overall list of captions; find out which album the photograph is in; take a note of the reference number and then you will be able to look at the scanned photographs and find the one of you are specifically interested in.

We hope you enjoy looking at this fascinating archive. We hope that more albums can be catalogued and scanned in the future. This is an on-going project.

Our project for January and February 2013 is to focus our research on the history of our local village primary school. If you are interested in joining us, or helping us, or can contribute in any way with information or photographs we’d be delighted to hear from you.
