Sutton Six run
2011 races
This year’s Sutton Six races will be held again on the traditional 3rd Sunday of the month. There will be the usual two races, the 10km race and the Fun Run (c. 2.5km). Courses are the same as in previous years.
The 10K starts in Belle Vue Lane opposite Middlecroft, does a loop of Guilden Sutton Lane/Hare Lane/Belle Vue Lane coming back past the start point and then heading out again down Guilden Sutton Lane/Hare Lane to the Vets on the A51 and then down the wide pavement all the way to Wicker lane, to come back into the village and finish at the Village Hall. Race start time will be 11:00.
At 12:15 the Fun Run will start in Hilltop Road. This goes out via Arrowcroft Road, turning left on the pavement along School Lane up to Oaklands. Running all the way around Oaklands, back out to School Lane and then round once more before turning into Hilltop Road to get back to the finish at the Village Hall. Entry to the Fun Run is on the day only at the Village Hall (£2) and there will be an award to all finishers.
Refreshments will be available in the Village Hall, provided as usual by the local Cubs group.
This year there are some changes brought about by the latest Health & Safety rules. Our local council’s Safety Advisory Group requires us to put a temporary road closure in place to cover the start of the 10K race in Belle Vue Lane. We will need to put a road closure in place for about 15 minutes, i.e. from approx. 10:45 to 11:00, whilst the runners are assembled at the start location and the race is started. We will restrict this closure to about 50 metres either side of Middlecroft up and down Belle Vue Lane. Middlecroft will remain accessible at all times from the Oaklands end. We apologise in advance for any short term disruption but hope that local residents will bear with us for the short period whilst we get the race underway.
Internet entry is available for the 10K race from West Cheshire AC website at www.westcheshireac.co.uk/roadracing/Sutton6 Using this link will take you to all the available race information and provides another link to our on-line entry administrator (ukresults.net). Please note that entries for the Fun Run can only be taken on the day, in the Village Hall from c. 09:00
Hope to see you in September either running in the races or cheering on the runners

The annual Sutton Six and Fun Runs usually take place on the third Sunday in September. The runs were originally conceived in 1982 as one of the fund raising efforts towards the Village Hall. By 1992 the Hall was well established and the Community Association looked to a local Athletic Club to continue with the organisation of the popular races.
Since 1993 the format for the day has generally been for CEPAC (the Chester and Ellesmere Port Athletic Club) and after a club merger in 1998 West Cheshire AC to organise and prepare the races. The route has had a few variations over the years and has now settled on an accurate 10K route but always finishing at the Village Hall car park. The Community Association provides the Village Hall as race headquarters and for various voluntary groups to provide refreshments for sale to runners and spectators. It is a real family occasion, so come along and run or cheer.
The race is very successful with a good sized, high quality field and a large number of competitors. The weather has been amazingly kind to us (how many more years can we be lucky with a nice day?) and it is a really enjoyable day.
Most of the race and fun run results from 1982 onwards can be viewed amongst the Race Archives on WCAC’s website. Do any residents have copies of the two missing years?
