The Parish Council – who’s who?

At its annual meeting, the Parish Council elected Cllr Trisha Paterson as Chairman of the Council for the ensuing 12 months.  This is the first occasion on which Cllr Paterson, previously the vice chairman, has held the office of Chairman. Cllr Bob Armitage was elected as vice chairman. Cllr Armitage is the Father of the Council, having served as a parish councillor since 1977.

Cllr Pat Astbury continues as the Local Bus User Contact and Mr Brian Lewin as Parish Paths Warden. Cllr Ron Bayton and Mr Alan Young are the Parish Tree Wardens.

Elections.

The Parish Council has congratulated the MP for the City of Chester, Mrs Christine Russell (see overleaf) and County Cllr John Burke, who represents the Gowy Division which covers Guilden Sutton, on their re election in the May Parliamentary and County Council elections respectively.

Bus services.

The annual parish meeting attracted the best turnout of members of the public for a number of years. Residents were able to question the managing director of Chesterbus, Mr Stuart Hyslop, on the changes made to bus services to and from the village, particularly the loss of the 9am service 35 to Chester.  This meant there was no bus to town between 8.15am and 9.30am. Concerns were also raised about service 80 to the Chester Business Park, which is a Cheshire County Council contract service. It was felt that times were not suitable for shifts on the business park and the schedules held by drivers did not line up with the timetable information.

Mr Hyslop kindly agreed to investigate if it might be possible to reinstate the 9am service with support from the County Council as there were only a low number of passengers. County Cllr Burke, who was present, also agreed to raise the issue.  The question of changes to the timing of the 8.15am service to town on the 80 route and the 5.20pm return journey is also being investigated.

Trees, the dell.

A number of concerns arose when maintenance and felling work was carried out by the City Council to trees on the City Council owned amenity area at the dell on the Oaklands estate. Unfortunately, there was no prior consultation with the Parish Council and two councillors were sufficiently concerned to intervene separately to question the contractor about the work being carried out.  The concerns were compounded by the fact that debris was not removed promptly by the contractor and this gave rise to nuisance.  The matter is being raised with the City Council although an apology has already been given for the lack of consultation. The Parish Council is being consulted about replacement trees which will be planted to replace the five trees which were felled.
