You wouldn't believe that someone from Australia would want
to know what is going on in dear old Guilden Sutton, would you? But that is what we have
found out from our new website (www.guildensutton.org.uk).
It
has recently been revamped by Parish Councillor, Danny Fisher, and shows a lot of
information about the village. It has an introduction to the website, a brief history of
the village and separate sections on 'places of worship', 'for the young', 'leisure and
shops' and 'community contacts', as well as information about the Parish Council and the
Community Association. It also has a map of the village (if you are not sure where you
are), What's on! and links to other sites.
It
has a lot of interesting information. Did you know that 'The village name means "the
southern homestead in the hollow where the marsh marigolds grow".' It also has a
story about the village in former times. 'That Cromwell's men were unable to find it when
they sought to punish the Royalist settlement, and that a missing Chester plate is buried
under an unspecified oak tree.' - buried treasure indeed.
It
shows pictures of the churches, the village school, the Village Hall, the pub and various
other places. It has a short write-up on each. You can also look back on the activities of
the Community Association over the last 5 years and see what has been exercising our minds
in the recent past.
The
role of the Parish Council is explained, dating back to its inception in 1895, and a look
at some of the areas that it is responsible for and becomes involved in. There are 14
different achievements and current issues in this list. The website shows how the Parish
Council can help you, how to contact each Councillor and the dates of Council meetings
through to the end of 2002.
The
What's on! gives you the events going on in the village, taken from the Guilden
Sutton Diary in the Marigold, and there are some very interesting links to other relevant
sites in Cheshire and Chester to help you find out what is happening in and around the
