WHAT IS THE MARIGOLD?

Well, what is it? Do you like it? Is it entertaining? Do you enjoy reading it? Or am I preaching to the converted because you are reading it now?

The Marigold is published by the Community Association and is one of the ways that the Association ‘promotes the benefit of the inhabitants of the village and its neighbourhood, without distinction of sex or of religious, political or other opinions, and the social welfare, recreation or leisure time occupations of those inhabitants.’

It is edited by John Beavan, who does an excellent job in producing the 3 issues of the Marigold published each year. The timings of the issues are arranged around the school terms, so that you will receive a copy by September, January and April each year. The Village Hall tends to be used and organised by terms by many of its users, and this seems to fit in pretty well with the copies of the Marigold.

Does anyone read it? That is up to you. We have a small group of people who distribute a copy to every house in the village, and any surplus left over is available to anyone else who wants to know what goes on in the village and would like to read it. It is produced solely by volunteers, who send in articles for it, which John pieces together to produce the final edition. The printing is financed by the Association, and even that is done at an advantageous price by a local printer.

It is intended to let people know what is going on in the village and in the Village Hall. If it doesn’t succeed in this, please let me know. Even better, tell me how it can be improved. From the feedback that I do receive, I know that many people do read it and do enjoy it. They find it interesting and informative. It tells them what is happening with their group, with other groups, and lets them know the wide range of activities that go on in the Hall, and just as importantly, gives them a telephone number or contact point for lots of activities.

But what next? Do we carry on with the same formula and format? Is there a demand for an Internet version of the Marigold? Would you like it on a web page? Perhaps we are not ready for this yet. I am confident that there is plenty of mileage in the present set-up. The product is good. It is well presented, cheap to produce and the distribution process is pretty efficient. But is it what you want?

If you like it, tell me. If you don’t like it, tell me.

PAINTING

I am happy to tell you that we intend to carry on the painting rota in the Village Hall, and with luck, by the start of the Autumn term, we will have a newly painted main hall there. The plan is to arrange for it to take place in the quiet season, i.e. in the school holidays, when the main groups all tend to take their main break from their normal activities.

SUTTON SIX AND FUN RUNS

The annual Sutton Six and Fun Runs take place as usual this year. They will be held on Sunday 24th September and will be organised by Richard Batterham and friends from West Cheshire AC. The main arrangements will all be the same as usual, but there are bound to be a few minor changes here and there, just to keep us on our toes.
