GOINGS ON IN THE VILLAGE HALL

I have mentioned before about the number and variety of activities going on in the Village Hall and I thought I would give you some more idea about those activities, so that those of you who don’t dare pass the glass portals, might get an idea of what you are missing.

The Guilden Sutton Pre-school Group are in the Marigold Room every morning. enabling the very young members of the village to play and learn. On a Tuesday they are accompanied by Badminton with Crèche and Parent and Toddler Groups in the Main Hall. until lunch time. These groups have been with us for some time and are regular attendees. The afternoon sees the Computer Class plugging in and switching on, for the benefit of those who want to know a little more about the many powerful things that computers can do.

There is quite a lot of time available in the Hall during the day on most days and Mrs Hall, our amazing cleaner is able to fit in around the regular users, so that she can do her jobs without putting anyone out.

Late afternoon, after the schools finish, a different group of children come to the hall to improve their talents, when Nina Gaskell’s Ballet School takes over the Main Hall, every day, and the Marigold Room on a couple of days each week. Nina also trains her girls in the Hall for most of Saturdays - she does have Sunday off, though. Another late afternoon group is the Karate Club, which visits the Marigold Room, each Wednesday, and again on a Sunday.

In addition to these regular users are those people who want to book the Marigold Room for one of the other afternoons it is free. This is usually for children’s parties. It is a great place to have a children’s party. If you are desperate during the party, you can always let them have a session running round the Hall and burning off all that excess energy. They don’t half sleep well at night.

Evenings provide much more variety to the number of groups we have using the Hall. Each of the rooms has its own particular attractions, with the Main Hall being especially useful for sports activities and those groups needing a little more room, the Marigold Room playing host to dancing and play rehearsals, and the Committee Room being just the right size for meeting groups and an add-on room for a couple of Users in the Main Hall.

Activities in the Main Hall are Badminton, Circle Dancing, Guides, Junior Club and Bowls. The Marigold Room entertains The Caledonian Reel club, Jazzercise and Players, whilst the Committee Room is used for meetings by The Community Association Executive Committee, the Village Hall Management Committee, the Parish Council and the Footpaths Group, with Badminton and Guides using it as an extra room for their activities.

Weekends are used mainly for children’s parties, special shows, plays, the Village Quiz, dances, etc. apart from some of our regular Users. This is also the time that we hold our Maintenance Days, to enable us to carry out the DIY jobs that need doing.

I have mentioned these groups to give people an idea of the variety and breadth of uses to which the Hall is put. It is not meant as a diary to enable you to book all your activities. The diary itself is so dynamic that it is changing all the time and it may even have changed since I wrote this article.

It is there to give you an idea of what goes on, so that if there is something there that you fancy having a go at, give the person organising the group a ring (most of them write a paragraph or two about themselves in the Marigold) and arrange to try it out.

It will also tell you what we are not doing, and then if you have an idea, you can see if there is someone doing it already.

If you wish to know more about these goings on, please contact the Village Hall on a Monday evening between 7pm and 8pm, either in person or by ringing 301778, or ring Judith or Alan on 301835, but only on a Thursday between 7pm and 8pm.

ALL CHANGE

We have brought forward the issue dates for the Marigold, so please let us know if you prefer the new deadlines.

We used to print the Marigold three times a year - in September, January and May. But after a request, we have decided to change it to April, August and December. This will mean that the timings will be different for some of the reports we include (there is no report of the Village Quiz, for example, because it is after the copy deadline for this issue of the Marigold).

Tell us if you prefer the new issue dates, or whether you think we should go back to the previous copy dates.

COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The AGM will be held on Monday 18th May in the Village Hall starting at 8pm. Everyone in the village is welcome to come along and find out what is going on at the hall. Please come along and tell us what you think..
